Supported Investor Types

Supported Investor Types and Relationships

You will find various relationships between the contacts and investors in the system. Some common relationships are listed below:

Personal and Joint Personal Investments

These are investments held personally by a single investor or jointly by two individuals.

For example, John Doe holds an individual investment, or John Doe and Jane Doe hold an investment jointly under the entity John and Jane Doe.

In this scenario, you would assign the investment to one individual, say John Doe while entering John and Jane Doe as the entity. You would then create a separate account for Jane Doe and link that account to John Doe's account. Conversely, you could assign the investment to Jane Doe with the entity set to John and Jane Doe, while then linking John's account to Jane's account so they both could access the investment details.

An Investment Held by an Investor with Multiple Contact Owners

These are investments held by an investor with multiple contact owners.

For example an LLC with multiple owners.

In this scenario, you may want to create a placeholder contact account for the investor. A placeholder contact account can be created for the entity, which would then be assigned the investment in a property. You would then create a contact account for each contact owner of the investor and link a contact to one or more accounts.

A Pension Fund with Multiple Members (contact owners)

A pension fund (typical use case for private equity), is a type of investment fund from a pool of money accumulated through employee/employer contributions. Fund managers oversee and grow the fund's assets to ensure adequate funds are available to pay out retirement benefits to the plan's participants.

For example, the California Public Empolyee's Retirement System (CalPERS), is the largest pension fund in the U.S. providing benefits to more than 2 million public employees, retirees, and their families.

In this scenario, there are multiple members, also referred to as owners, associated with the fund who will need access to the investment on different levels.

In Sensr Portal, you would create an entity for the Pension fund that owns the investment in which the multiple members will see - as well as any related documents - when logged in to the investor portal.

An Entity that is Fully Owned by an Investor (e.g., an investor who has invested in a fund through an IRA account or wholly-owned LLC)

For example, John Doe made an investment through an IRA account and a second investment personally, not through a separate entity.

In this scenario, you would assign the investment to John Doe (the investor) and would enter the entity used (ex. IRA, Trust, Etc) as the entity for the investment.

A Contact Who Needs to Access the Information of Another Contact

For example, a parent accessing their children's investments, a spouse accessing their spouse's investments, or an agent such as a CPA who needs access to their client's investments.

In this scenario, you would link the account of the agent to the account to which the agent needs access. You can link the agent to multiple different accounts so they can access the information from one single login. You can choose to set the agent as an alternate email on the account they are linked to, to allow the agent to be CC'd on all communications that go to the account they are linked to.

Someone Wants to Receive Email Communications that go to another Person but Do Not Need to Login to the Portal

For example, a spouse who does not need an account but wants to receive updates.

In this scenario, you would have an account for one contact and then set their alternate email to the email of the person (such as the spouse) who would like to also receive the communications that go to this contact.
