Use the Investment Date Field

Sensr Portal has many built-in metrics and other features that work in conjunction with the standard investment date field.  It is important to understand how this investment date field works to make use of the many built-in features.  Three key areas are covered in detail below:

Entering an Investment Date

When you create or edit an investment in Sensr Portal, you will have the option to populate the investment date (or custom investment date field you specified with the Customer Success team).

Use in Investment Metrics

By specifying the investment date, you are specifying the start date for all investment metrics.  It is also used to mark the date of a capital outflow event for deployments in funds.  This means that the calculations for the following metrics will use the investment date as the start date/capital event date:

  • IRR
  • Estimated IRR
  • Annualized Cash on Cash Return

If an investment date is not specified, these metrics use the Funding Date as the start date for the investment.

Importance of Investment Date in Funds

You may have several capital calls over the lifetime of a fund and as a result, recording the specific deployment date for each capital deployment will help you give more accurate reporting to your investors, both on when contributions were made and to allow for more accurate IRR and Cash on Cash reporting.

To understand how to make capital calls with an investment date tied to each deployment, see the  article on Generating Capital Calls.
